(ttac and usa today repost) Ask the Best and Brightest: What Should John Wolfe Name His Dallas Car Talk (oops) Radio Show?

Although there’s nothing routine about him, John Wolfe is a stand up guy. A regular here at TTAC. A shining example of our Best and Brightest. While I’m trying to keep the word “fire” as far away from this sentence as possible, I think we can all admit that even the most insightful commentator hereabouts occasionally draws a blank. So it’s no surprise that this appeal to his fellow carmudgeons across the e-transom, of which I share with you.

My radio show is fixing to morph into a three-hour Saturday morning program on CBS radio in Dallas. We’re still keeping the small town affiliate network, but big D is the obvious focal point considering the entire listenership population of my current 6 affiliates totals 10% of the population of the new affiliate. I have the concept down pat in my mind, but I need a name. Something punchy, cocky, demands attention. Currently there are two Saturday morning talkers in the DFW market “Wheels with Ed Wallace” and “The Car Guy” (Jerry Reynolds auto advise show). [Being a modest, low-key kinda guy] I really like the name “King of Cars.” However, that idea came from a popular show on A&E TV [about a scumbag four-square wielding Chrysler dealer]. Any ideas?

    The Wolf’s Lair.

If von Stauffenberg’s your guest, make sure he didn’t leave anything.

“The Wolf’s Lair” had Hitler’s HQ stigma. How about “Wolfe’s Whistle”?

    I’ve always enjoyed JW’s comments (or is John Wolfe ‘Wolfman’ on here?)…so name it what you will but I have two questions;

What are the call letters of the station?
Do they have a Listen Live online feature?

I’ll be happy to tune in and support one of TTAC’s Best and Brightest.

Now as for the name, assuming that is JW’s sprinter, howzzabout ” Ridin’ the Cushion with the Wolfman”

Good ideas gents, this is like naming a baby. King of Cars is the perfect name, but Chop Chop snagged it

Do what I did: a funny automotive technical term. Final drive, Throwout Bearing, Blow By, etc.

The Piston Slapper (due South in Houston)

What else would you do with a name like Sajeev… especially in Texas? 🙂

When I hear “Wolfe”, I think of Arnie Pie’s traffic report entitled “Arnie in the Sky”.

Car Chat with the Big Bad John, featuring John Wolfe?

Doesn’t matter to me what you call it, please just avoid getting too cozy with the new car dealers…both the existing shows, to me, seem to shill too much for the new car dealers. I’d love a car show with some TTAC snark.

BTW, what frequency (or station) in DFW is CBS radio???

    Drive Time

It will appeal to station managers because it’s a radio term for the morning and afternoon peak listening periods, corresponding to rush hour for commuters.

@lerxst. 105.3FM KRLD, and I wholeheartedly agree on the handholding and rehearsed asskissing that makes other shows seem so padded. My style is moreso headbangers ball than mr rogers neighborhood.

….So when you progress from this show you can just slip in whatever your next show is about instead of Automobile and keep the simply awesome WWW tag line ! haha
